In defining the action plan, Caffè Vergnano has identified three areas within which to articulate these activities: production process, energy, and product development.
For years, the company has been committed to running these actions sustainably, and they will be the springboard from which the guidelines will be defined.
The Committee is made up, at a very early stage, of technical and strategic resources within the company, who are currently engaged in the following divisions: Production, Quality, Purchasing, Logistics, Design, Marketing & Pr.
A second phase will also include the entry of guests and external consultants in order to broaden the point of view and skills applied to the project.
"For years, we have been committed to sustainability in a broad sense. We believe it is now essential to structure our actions in a more defined and shared way" declares Carolina Vergnano, founder of the Corporate Committee - "This is the only way that we can act more concretely and effectively, putting environmental issues at the center of our business approach "
Always sensitive to environmental issues, Caffè Vergnano is constantly committed to minimizing the impact on the environment. From compostable capsules to the reuse of empty coffee cans, from packs that can be fully recycled and to whole bean coffee packs made up with 50% recycled PET.
Furthermore, since 2018, our approach to sustainability has also extended to social issues with Women in Coffee, the fundraising project that supports female empowerment projects and enhances the role of women in coffee plantations.

International Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd, the theme this year is "Restore our Earth". To face this issue, we have rethought the steps we have taken in the past and the ones we are taking daily for a sustainable approach to the environment.
We are truly committed to becoming every day more sustainable towards the environment.

Compost - Our Èspresso1882 and A Modo Mio compatible capsules are compostable, therefore, recoverable in the separate organic waste collection. In this way, waste is reduced, the first step towards a sustainable approach to the environment.

Second life - Our coffee tins can be reused in many ways! All you need is a bit of imagination!

Recycled and recyclable - The packaging of our pack dedicated to the foodservice segment is recycled and recyclable, made up of 50% regenerated R-PET plastic. Better coffee for the environment even out of home.

Recycling – Every product wrapping can be recovered in a separate collection (compost, aluminum, plastic, paper ...) Separating the various packages in the appropriate containers is a gesture as simple as important.

From waste to resource - The by-products of production are given a second life: from coffee films, intended for zootechnical and/or energy use, to jute bags reused for mulching and soil containment in agriculture and nurseries. To find out more, visit the dedicated page on our website

Many roasting companies spend their energies and resources on a daily basis in search of packaging with a lower environmental impact.
In domestic consumption, the desire to reduce the impact of waste from the beloved cup of coffee is now well known. This is confirmed by the preference for compostable capsules that can be recovered in the organic collection and bags that can be placed in plastic.
What happens at cafés? Aluminum, plastic, mixed materials: coffee for professionals is packaged in different ways, all thought of to preserve coffee beans in the best possible way and for as long as possible. But coffee is even better if it manages to have a second life.
And this is how, starting from a careful study on the recycling of plastic bottles, we managed to develop pf game-changing container for professionals of the coffee industry.
First of all, the material used to produce it is an absolute innovation in the market. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a plastic suitable for food contact because it is light, resistant, and an excellent barrier against humidity. Above all, it is 100% recyclable and can be recycled over and over again.
Secondly, the new pack that Caffè Vergnano has designed for its coffee beans dedicated to the HoReCa world, is made of 50% virgin PET, and 50% recycled R-PET.

R-Pet, from water bottles to coffee, the second life of raw materials
Recycling is among the best solutions to reduce the environmental impact and R-Pet derives from the recycling of plastic water bottles. These, properly selected, sanitized, and reduced to flakes, give life to the new coffee packaging.
The optimal preservation of the coffee is guaranteed, without compromises or limitations: the new material has in fact the same performance as the container made of 100% virgin plastic.
The coffee pack thus becomes a real resource that cuts in half the use of plastic from non-renewable sources and reduces CO2 emissions in the production phase.
The choice that makes the difference
More and more baristas, restaurant owners, and entrepreneurs try to make coffee part of a change that looks to the future, and that provides benefits in terms of environmental impact, distinctiveness and competitiveness.
Caring for the end of life of products goes hand in hand with a new sensitivity shared by both professionals and customers, who are increasingly careful and inclined to make informed purchases.

It is a photographic journey that paints feelings. Coffee is the protagonist, a symbol of that normality that we miss so much.
![]()
It is a travel companion who stays by our side at any time of the day. It gives us comfort and warmth during the colder season, accompanying us towards spring, a symbol of rebirth. Coffee becomes hope, colors become more alive.
We leave our shelter to experience adventures and opportunities for sharing. A cup always in our hands. To tell a path of recovery, the metaphor of a path we would like to walk together, once again.
![]()
We want to start a journey of discovery, confirmation, evasion, departures, arrivals, and comebacks, together. A journey that starts from words and leads us through atmospheres, sensations to an intimate dimension. We have imagined a story in stages that takes us to different places where coffee is the connector. Not only as a product but also as a symbol of a moment that brings sensations and feelings that are so intimate when shared.

Every day of our life, we go on a journey. Short or long, real or imaginary. We go through seasons and moods that guide us throughout the day. We chose destinations, but we are now aware that everything can be called into question. This does not mean that we give up dreams, projects, and prospects. We hold on, by appreciating the single moments, the small gestures. Of course, with a coffee in your hands.

In 2021 we bring our focus to school programs because we believe that female empowerment starts with gender education.
We support Funtasia’s belief that gender equality begins in school
Funtasia is a non-profit organization that operates internationally to provide adults and youths the tools needed to become healthy, active, and fulfilled citizens of the world.
One of the pillars of Funtasia’s community-based learning programs is to help teachers and students to discover their inner potential and ignite the development of precious life skills such as inclusion, creative-thinking, and positive communication.
“I fell in love with Elisa's project because it is a project that complements traditional forms of learning, providing more democratic access to education. Funtasia promotes the same values that we are trying to bring forward with our project Women in Coffee: gender equality, female entrepreneurship, culture and inclusion”. Carolina Vergnano
Funtasia creates experiential programs that allow students to test their ideas hands-on. Entertaining, fun projects to learn from.
![]()
Caffè Vergnano collabora con Funtasia “We believe that these learning programs can focus on entrepreneurship and provide a structured analysis of all objective and subjective elements that could represent an obstacle to the full realization of the potential of female entrepreneurship.
Men and other genders are a fundamental part of this journey. Together, we identify the clichés which prevent little girls and teens to believe that they could realize their dreams. We all commit to thinking before speaking and acting, every day, and to dismantle these prejudices one by one.” Elisa Sednaoui
The idea for Women in Coffee
The project offers a learning program for youths that combines the enhancement of transversal, relational and creative skills with the opportunity to reflect on the subject of personal fulfillment. Students will go through in-depth testimonials on clichés, prejudices and similar issues that are often at the source of discrimination.

Add some chopped hazelnuts to the ice cream and a biscuit wafer and enjoy it with your loved ones!On February 14th , just in time to celebrate Valentines’ day, the first two Women in Coffee concept stores will open within INVITA cafè. Here an interview to Sara, manager of the two Invita café locations in CARLSBAD and RANCHO SANTA FE (for more info on the locations: https://www.invitacafe.com/locations ).
“Women in Coffee” is Caffè Vergnano sustainable project: a concrete commitment to sustain projects of women working in the coffee plantations. A project for social inclusion. That is the goal of Women in Coffee 2020, which will support the construction of The Family Rural Library for the inhabitants of Marcala, Honduras. The library will be open to the whole community: a place where children can study, learn and have fun, where families can meet and where IWCA members can gather. All this to create a place that allows women to meet and express their full potential.
INVITA cafè and specially SARA DE LUCA, manager of the two INVITA locations has decided to support the project, becoming the first Women in Coffee ambassador in the US.
![]()
“Sara, let us know more about INVITA’S history: when did it all start and when did you became store manager?”
When I graduated college in 2016 I began working for a start up company- CommonGrounds Workspace. As they developed their concept, they decided to launch an F&B amenity for their members. I was fortunate enough to be part of the development team of a coffee shop concept for CommonGrounds. In 2016 we opened a prototype cart at beachfront park in San Diego where we tested different coffee machines, coffee products, recipes and ideas. It was here where I came up with the name, concept and story behind Invita. In 2017 we opened our first official shop in Carlsbad, California. October of last year we opened our second San Diego location. I have since branched off from CommonGrounds Workspace and now operate the two San Diego locations as my own personal business.
“Which are the reasons behind your choice to support women in coffee?”
Our team is excited to launch a program that helps us be more intentional about giving back. Our commitment to Caffé Vergnano and admiration for Carolina Vergnano herself makes the program even more special. Women in Coffee seemed the perfect match for Invita Café considering that it is women owned and strongly women operated. After a year of such separation, we are excited to use this program as a way to bring our local community back together and support those in need around the world, all while enjoying a delicious new blend of flavors!
Which are the new trends in coffee nowadays in California and how the old fascinating espresso fits in?
It’s obvious that the coffee industry has sword in the past decade. While I’m not exactly competing with a third wave craze that has occurred in my generation, I’ve tapped into a niche market. There aren’t very many coffee shops that take the traditional styles of Italy mixed with the modern third wave concepts that have developed off today. I’m hoping with time I can get increasingly more of the community to appreciate and enjoy the traditional flavors I’m so passionate about. It’s obvious that the coffee industry has soared in the past decade. It’s more about creating a space our local community can thrive in versus becoming a mega corporate company in 5 to 10 years. I want people to feel like they've taken a trip to the old country when they walk into the shops!

A sustainable dream, as Carolina Vergnano defined it, to help a community of 20 women coffee producers in Dominican Republic.
Caffè Vergnano is committed to financially support the creation of a roasting, grinding and packaging laboratory of the coffee grown in the plantations of the Hondo Valley, managed by the women of the ADOMUCA association. For the project, selected with the support of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (an international association whose mission is to support women working in the coffee supply chain all over the world), a special all-female collection, moka pot, cup and pink coffee tin, with new products being added throughout the year. The purchase of the Pink Collection supports Women in Coffee: a part of the proceeds from 2019 sales was, in fact, donated to the project.
The coffee roasting machine delivery, which took place at the end of December, will allow the women to start a small coffee roasting station. In 2020 a new dream has begun. About how to tell our Christmas in a way that would make it feel like everyone's Christmas. A family Christmas in the broadest way we can think of. A Christmas made of the most authentic love and values.

These are delicate times. We have all experienced the heaviness of this 2020. But we all feel the need to find small signs of that comforting normality that we had perhaps underestimated until now.

So we thought that this year our Christmas would need more magic than ever, slow rhythms, everyday gestures to rediscover, traditions to recover, and a pinch of light naivety. That kind of naivety that fills children’s hearts and that we tend to forget as we grow up.
![]()
It will for sure be intimate and sober. We will rediscover new smiles and new balances. In many cases, we will have to invent new temporary traditions (which, who knows, might even last after the pandemic is over) like wishing a loved one happy holidays via video call. It will be a Christmas made of simplicity, of tiny joys that fill our hearts. Just like the smell of a Moka pot on the stove that fills the air on a December morning.

We tried to collect, in our memories, all the moments that represent the anticipation leading to December. Thanks to the gaze of photographer Stefania Giorgi, we managed to turn them into a moving visual story for Instagram, which conveys the smell of coffee in every single shot.

Coffee has this magical ability to bind itself to timeless and ageless memories. It is the sensation a child has when plunging their nose into a newly opened tin (raise your hand if you have never done so!). Of a morning spent in the kitchen preparin New Year's Eve’s dinner. It is the comfort of something that chases the sadness away when the holidays are over but there is still a pastry on the tray.

In short, for us, coffee feels like Christmas more than ever. Especially this year, as we'll be physically distant, but close with the heart.
And we will be close to you. As we have always done: with the aroma of our blends, the passion of every day, the love of a tradition.
Because it will be a strange Christmas, but it will still be Christmas.
Greetings from all of us!
