“Women in Coffee is our sustainable dream: a fundraising project that supports small communities of women working on coffee plantations.“

Why WOMEN IN COFFEE?

Women play a fundamental role in the coffee production chain: they make up for about 70% of the workforce in the cultivation areas.

Therefore, coffee is female.

This awareness gave rise to Women in Coffee, a fundraising initiative founded in 2019 to support concrete projects aimed at enhancing and promoting the role of women in coffee plantations.

The project

The project was developed in collaboration with the IWCA – International Women’s Coffee Alliance, a non-profit organization whose mission is to support women who produce coffee to achieve an economically sustainable life.

Every year, together with the IWCA, we select a project to support that becomes the new chapter of a story in which coffee always plays the main role.

Women in Coffee is not just about charity – it is a commitment to raise awareness on one aspect of the coffee industry that is widely unknown. A meeting of shared values, which starts in a coffee cup and speaks of empowerment, inclusion, and sustainability.

Women in Coffee 2020: the new chapter in Honduras.

A project for social inclusion.

That is the goal of Women in Coffee 2020, which will support the construction of The Family Rural Library for the inhabitants of Cual Bicicleta, in Marcala, Honduras.

The library will be open to the whole community: a place where children can study, learn and have fun, where families can meet and where IWCA members can gather. All this to create a place that allows women to meet and express their full potential.

Acknowledgments for 2019

The first Women in Coffee project ended in December 2019. Thanks to the sale of our Pink Collection and some special events, we were able to raise over $ 10,000 to support the launch of a coffee roastery run by a community of 20 women in the Hondo County, Santo Domingo.

The specialty coffees by Women in Coffee

We share and embrace the values of the IWCA: that’s why we support projects that aim at empowering people and creating sustainable communities.

We have supported and continue supporting women who are wives, mothers, and workers on coffee plantations.

This initiative has led the production of two specialty coffees that bare the Women in Coffee logo: two distinct journeys to discover the flavors of Santo Domingo and Honduras.

Women in Coffee 2019: Dominican Republic

The Barahona blend, from the Dominican Republic: the origin and heart of the first chapter of Women in Coffee.

This variety of coffee beans is large and particularly flat. It has a great aroma, an intense body, low acidity, and a sweet taste. Perfect for high-quality blends.

Women in Coffee 2020: Honduras

Our second blend stems from Honduras.

The origin selected for this year’s project is Marcala, where the finest Honduran coffee grows. The beans are large and homogeneous, have a good body and an aromatic acidity.

In the cup, the taste is sweet almost like a liqueur: perfect for gourmet espresso blends.
